SharePoint Designer Workflow Changes not Posting

Hey Community,

I've encountered a tough problem.  I have made some changes to a SharePoint Designer (SPD) workflow.  I click Finish in the workflow designer and the changes are saved without error.  However, when I run the workflow on the actual site, it's still the old workflow design, not the workflow with the recent changes.  On this site I have Full Control permissions.  No errors appear in the workflow.  I do not have access to the CA, SP Logs, or Event Viewer.

I hope you can help!

Weird. Have you tried removing older versions of your workflow  from Workflow Settings for your list or library?

Hey Roland,

That's a good idea, I'll try that and then repost the changes and LYK how it works out.

Answer 3

Hey Roland,

Well I removed all but the current instance but the updates still don't show.  I guess the next step would be to remove the current instance too - what do you think?

Hi,

As you cannot access to the SP logs, in order to troubleshoot the workflow, please try to insert a “log to history list” action in your SPD workflow  that write to the history list to allow you to see the status of the workflow, The Workflow History List which was a hidden list and located in http://yoursite/lists/workflow history/. For more information about troubleshooting workflow, please refer to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc298927.aspx

Or you can recreate the workflow and then check if the changes are being shown on the SharePoint site, I think that the workflow may be corrupt.

Let me know the result.

Hey Xue-Mei,

Yes, I routinely add logging to all my workflows and when there are problems I'll add additional logging "around" the problem area. Unfortunately since no changes are reflecting in any of the workflows, I cannot add more logging to help me diagnose this problem.

I'll try creating a new "test" workflow  first.  If this runs properly then it may be that the other workflows are corrupt.

Hey Community,

Well the problem has been resolved by the sys admin! Without access to the server I could not research and resolve it myself, but the sys admin said he believed it had to do with the way the site was cached.  Anyway, the problem has disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared.  I'll update this comment if a better explain can be obtained.

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

I've run into the same problem and for what ever reason a reboot of my own PC and a republish fixed the issue.

Mike-

Hey Mike,

I did try that for my system but it didn't work for me, I guess this is one of those problems that can be caused by many different conditions.

Thanks!

Tom
